Anti Social Partnership Campaign Meeting

Colleagues,

On Monday 20th February there was an open meeting convened by ourselves to discuss the establishment of a broad and effective campaign against the coming partnership deal and related matters.

After a long discussion it was agreed in principle that there would be a campaign of arguments and ideas around the forthcoming ballots on proposals for a new deal. Though a leaflet would be produced the campaign would not have the resources for blanket coverage of all workplaces with the perspective of defeating the deal. The meeting was also in agreement that there is a need to build a serious and sustained presence in the unions of those who are opposed to social partnership and for democratic and fighting unions. It was agreed that people would take these conclusions away for consideration, and to their respective organisations where appropriate, and reconvene at another meeting.

So, we are reconvening on Monday 13th March at 8 p.m. in the Teachers Club, Parnell Square, Dublin to take the discussion forward and follow up any decisions on a possible campaign.

At time of writing it appears that the negotiators are having great difficulty in putting an agreement together. We are proceeding on the basis that they will produce a deal in the end. Hoping you can attend.
