• Women in full-time work are earning 17% less than men - Report by the Women and Work Commission
• “Women working part-time earn nearly 40% less than full-time men, a pay penalty that has hardly changed in 30 years” - EOC Chairwoman Jenny Watson
• 30,000 women a year are dismissed simply because they are pregnant. - The Equal Opportunities Commission.
• The average Local Government pension is £3,800; the average Local Government pension for women is £2,000 – Trade Union Review
• The only major groups of staff in the education service who have not had their posts evaluated are non teaching classroom staff and cleaners, both these groups of staff are predominantly women
• NIPSA is preparing 5000 equal pay cases in the civil service
• 30 years after sex discrimination was made unlawful women workers continue to find that they are still paid less and treated differently.
It is time for women to fight back against their employers and demand their rights – equal pay, equal treatment and respect.
Mark International Women’s Day with a protest calling for the right to equal pay for women workers and an end to discrimination.
