- the rebellion of the ghettos -

Though the french government enabled the cities to impose the state of emergeny the uprising in France continued last night in more than 200 cities and towns... Also in Germany and Belgium again cars were set on fire...

The World Socialist Web Site opposes and denounces the imposition of a state of emergency in France by the Chirac-Villepin-Sarkozy government. The introduction of this anti-democratic measure, a green light to the CRS riot police and other repressive agencies to launch a full-scale assault on the youth, is a major attack on democratic rights and a threat to the entire French working class. They are not a threat to the French working class, which is only too glad that the CRS is standing between them and further violence and destruction from the lumpen scum who are terrorising the suburbs.

If thes emergency powers are supported by the working class, then why have only 25 "zus" chosen to use the laws?

726 districts have not used the laws.

Why is that the same extra measures which have been suggested by Sarkozy to deal with terrorists (such as internet or telephone surveillance) are now being used to further criminalise teenagers?

Something is rotten.
