Operating for three years the highly varied Earth Show or Clar an Domhain has ceased broadcasting.
It came as little surprise to those involved in the programme's creation that as and from now the environmental/Gaeilge/Community open access radio show has completed its latest broadcast on Thursday last at 6pm.
However there was a sense of hostility felt by the volunteers who for six years had been involved at almost every level in the station's running. Then in 2002 volunteers felt that Galway and indeed the island lacked a radio station culture that provided a distinct open resource for those that had heretofore been denied any voice to the general population.Two students:one from GMIT and one from NUIG created the Earth show and began broadcasting oftentimes sensitive material. A space where local comedians could produce and broadcast was created alongside poets, writers, musicians, Travellers, victims of state sponsored abuse. Indeed the show became quite a focal point for many local and national organisations from charities to issue-based groups and a welcome drop-in soap box for those with something to say,sing shout or rant. After some time the show was a solo operation whose producer now felt that in the spirit of 'Think Global Act Local' should be brought into practice and the Earth Show became a bilingual production under the name; Clar an Domhain (the progamme of the world)...............
