Basque gig in Dublin

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Wednesday July 27, 2005 14:21author by Irish Basque Committees

Basque folk pop band performing at Conway's Pub, Parnell street.

8pm, € 7

"The record combines with great distinction pop and rock. It claims to go back to the spirit of British pop where guitars enjoy freedom to play continously and afterwards to leave the open way for vocal melodies.

British pop with Basque traditional triki, alboka and txalaparta (Basque instruments). Now and again, their native way of playing, reflects the origin of the band.

the simple and melodious songs are brillianty conducted by the singer. As the song goes into the ear, the seductive effect is inmediate.

Urgabe is been top number one in Basque radio stations for months and they play over 75 gigs a year.

This is the first Irish Tour for them and they are really excited and looking forward to enjoying Ireland and Irish wonderful atmosphere. After the gig they would like to be joined by local traditional musicians for a Basque-Irish session.

They are playing the 2nd of August in Dublin, the 3rd in Tí Chulainn (Co. Armagh), the 4th in Sandino's in Derry and the 4th within the West Belfast Féile during the Basque Day the 5th of August at the Red Devil pub (Falls Road).

Everybody is very wellcome to this unique event. The Tour is been organized by the Irish Basque Committees- Coistí Éireannach na mBascach."

I am not part of the organising committee.
I used to live in South America, where the Basque centres, Euskal etxea, are everywhere and Basque language is spoken in somme communities in he Argentinian provinces of Cordoba, and Chaco.
