Stand Up For Your Rights
Minutes of meeting held in WSM office on Wed. 15th June
Present:- Alan, Gregor, Stephen, Pepe, James, Oisin
Apologies:- Dave, Ray, Emma, Aileen, Cian, Tobi
1. We had a brief report on the 3 leafleting sessions done so far. It was reported that Ray O’Reilly of the IWU was experiencing an increase in the number of phone calls to the union as a result of the leaflet. All were agreed that the leafleting sessions had been very successful – just under 4,000 leaflets have been distributed.
2. A number of minor changes are needed to the leaflet
· There is a line of text missing from the front
· The Spanish needs to be corrected
· Include the Larkin Centre for the Unemployed under the list of places where people can get assistance
James agreed to make these changes
3. With regard to financing future leaflets, Ray, James, Stephen and Alan are all to look into pricings for 5,000 leaflets.
4. Next leafleting session – we had a discussion about what we should do and agreed that for the next 3 months we would do a leafleting session on the last Saturday of each month. The following dates and locations were agreed
· Sat. 25th June – Dundrum – meet at Balally Luas Stop at 2pm
· Sat. 30th July – Blanchardstown
· Sat. 27th August – Tallaght
5. It was suggested that we should organise a meeting/educational about organising and how to organise in the workplace. It was agreed that this would be organised for sometime in August. James is to put together a more detailed suggestion and circulate it by Email for approval.
6. Other issues raised were:-
· How long are we going to keep doing this for?
· Ways to raise money to fund the leaflets
· Putting the leaflet into Community Information Centres etc.
· The need to get beyond simply giving out information, and look at ways of encouraging people to get organised
· The need to move the campaign outside of Dublin
It was agreed to organise a meeting in late September to discuss all of these issues.
7. It was further agreed to contact friends, comrades and fellow-activists outside of Dublin with a view to seeing if we can involve people elsewhere in the campaign.
So if you live outside of Dublin and would like to get something going in your area, get in touch.
Anf if you live in Dublin, try to get along to the next leafletting on Sat. 25th June - details at http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=70301
