Unison NEC Elections - Socialist Party Gains

Unison is the largest public sector union in Britain with over 1 million members. Facing into industrial battles with the Blair Government Unison, with other public sector unions, will be in the battle to defend workers rights. The Socialist Party group on UNISON's 70-plus ruling National Executive Council (NEC) has been increased from three to five members following the recent elections.

Jump To Comment: 1 2As I understand it there are actually 67 seats on the UNISON executive.
The Socialist Party won 5 (up from 3). Other lefts won 8 seats, 7 belonging to the United Left grouping and 1 independent. The other socialist organisations, including the SWP, unfortunately lost their seats. This means that overall the left is at about the same strength as before.
Congratulations to the SP activists and other socialists who made it on.
Are the Union still supporting Tony Blair all the way to Bagdad and Damascus?
A union should be about members interests, not keeping Tony Blair in power. That's why the pensions action was cancelled.
