Last Chance to influence Democracy Commission's Report
Last Chance to influence Democracy Commission's Report (June 29, Dublin)
Following its successful public consultation event last November the Democracy Commission would like to invite you to its National Consultative Conference: New Directions for Irish Democracy
on Wednesday June 29th 2005 at which the Commission will present its findings and perspectives on a range of issues, prior to finalising its conclusions and recommendations.
This conference will take place in Liberty Hall, Eden Quay, Dublin 1 and will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm. A light lunch will be provided on the day.
The major themes it will address are:
* Strengthening Local Government
* Issues influencing voter turnout
* Active Democratic Citizenship and Citizenship Education
* The role of the Irish media in protecting and enhancing Irish democracy
* The (un)representative nature of Irish politics
* The accountability and transparency of Irish politics.
The Commission has entered the last phase of its work programme and will be launching it final report and recommendations this Autumn. This event will be an important opportunity for the Commission to get feedback on its work and for you to ensure that your views are part of its final deliberations.
As such the event is designed to facilitate deliberation and participation.
If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to democracycommission@tascnet.ie
or contact Phil McCaughey on (01) 6169082 to reserve a place at the event and to receive a complete programme and Commission briefing paper on the themes.
