Yesterday Mordechai Vanunu was judged to be free to travel in the West Bank and Gaza by a court in Jerusalem
Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli whistleblower on Israel's nuclear weapons, has been granted freedom to travel to the West Bank and Gaza by a Jerusalem Magistrates Court, according to reports in Haaretz and the Jerusalem Post
Last December 24th, he was arrested on his way to Bethlehem (in the West Bank) and was placed under house arrest for having violated a condition of his release, i.e. not to leave the country.
Now, as a result of this latest judgement, that arrest was not justified.
The court has ruled that the restrictions imposed on him barring him from the West Bank were illegal, since the Territories (West Bank and Gaza) are not considered by Israel as being "abroad".
The reason given for this by the defence, and accepted by Judge Yoel Tzur, is that one doesn't need a passport or ID to go from Israel to the West Bank.

Jump To Comment: 1Great News that maybe someof the israeli case against thisman is unravelling however its sad that the judge ruled like this because he considered that travelling to the WB and Gaza is not travelling outside Israel. It dosnt really augur well for the future of the "peace process"
Still hopefully we will soon see Vanunu free all over the world
