Nine US soldiers have been killed while fighting insurgents in western Iraq.
US forces in the west of the country have been trying to root out guerrillas in the rebellious Anbar province.
The assault - which is in its seventh day - is intended to weaken an insurgency that has escalated attacks since a new Iraq government was announced on 28 April.

At least four die in Baghdad car bomb attack
At least four people have been killed in a suicide car bomb attack near a police patrol in the capital, Baghdad.
Thick black smoke rose from burning vehicles after the blast, which occurred in the centre of the city.
Separately, the US military has revealed that US troops killed eight Iraqis during an insurgent attack on an army patrol yesterday.
US troops shot dead three insurgents who opened fire on them after trying to ram the US convoy in the incident, which happened in the northern city of Mosul.
The soldiers then opened fire on two cars approaching the patrol that appeared to be hostile, killing five civilians. The US military said that the incident is under investigation.
