Bassiouni given chop by UN

The Independent (UK) has a brief report on how the UN's chief human rights investigator for Afghanistan has had his "position eliminated" after he authored a detailed report on the torture and abuse of Afghans.

His report was based on a year of traveling around Afghanistan interviewing Afghans, international aid agency staff and others concluded that the US had been detaining and holding without trial. The detainees are thought to have been often tortured at the US airbases in Baghram and Kandahar
