Bring the asylum seekers home.
What sort of immigration policy should Ireland have?

Thursday April 14th, 8pm, Room 207 Liberty Hall

Public Forum

Following on from the victorious campaign to get Kunle returned to Ireland campaigns calling for the return of deportees are gathering momentum. Can these campaigns get the Minister to change his mind again? How can the anti-racist movement grow in Ireland? Should Ireland have immigration controls? What are the views of immigrants themselves? These are just some of the issues and questions that will be addressed at this forum. Come along and listen, give your views or get involved

Speakers:

Gladstone Obogoda (Immigrants Civil Rights Movement)
Mark Grehan (Residents against Racism)
Dalila Rosyln (Federation of Islamic Students of Ireland)
Rory Hearne (Campaigns Officer, USI)

Thursday April 14th, 8pm, Room 207 Liberty Hall

All welcome

Hi,
I know that it is not the same, but I really believe that you should have a look what's happening in Spain.
they are allowing inmigrants to apply for visas, and giving them the opportunity to submit some kind of proof that they lived in Spain before August last year.
I believe that Ireland should look at this example

Why do the SWP think that Islam is more progressive than other religions? SWP leaflet mosques on Fridays but don't turn up to strikes of Turkish (and Muslim by religion) GAMA workers. The SWP in Britain voted against women's rights being included on Respect programme. Recently at the NUS Conference they ganged up with an Islamic students society to attack a guest speaker from a women's rights group in Iraq.

1. Socialist worker did turn up at strikes and protests of GAMA workers - there were a number of them supporting at the protest today and our paper contains a large article supporting the GAMA workers see www.swp.ie

2. I dont know about the respect or NUS things but i can say that in the current climate of islamophobia and racist attacks it is important that socialists do not become part of the anti-muslim hysteria and stand up and counter the racist myths that all muslims are anti-womens rights and are backward reactionary fundamentalists. Muslims are under a specific attack post 9-11. Many muslims are active in the anti-war movements and movements for real democracy and justice around the world e.g Iraq. By standing shoulder to shoulder with those struggling against oppression we can engage in the discussions over other issues that we dont agree with.
