category cork | environment | event notice author Monday February 07, 2005 16:04author by Dave - We Love Cork Harbour

11.30am on Monday at the Great Southern Hotel, Cork Airport sees the start of the oral hearing where objectors get to air their views on the Environmental Protection Agency's granting of a licence for 2 Incinerators at Ringaskiddy in Cork Harbour. The general feeling among objectors is that the decision has already been made and this hearing is about going through the motions to give the illusion of democracy and consultation. Please come to the hotel to show support for the campaigners and to inject some true democracy into the proceedings This is a PUBLIC hearing so anyone can attend. Bring banners, drums, theatre, Love and Rage. It's Valentine's day after all.

OPPONENTS of a controversial €100m toxic waste incinerator last night threatened to boycott an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) oral hearing after it emerged that the agency will not be offering full evidence at the two-week inquiry.

Opponents claimed the absence of senior EPA officials at the hearing into a proposed waste licence allowing waste management company Indaver to operate an incinerator at Ringaskiddy in Cork was "an absolute farce".
