Public Meeting

Rathmines Anti War Group are convening a meeting on WEDNESDAY evening of this week in Madisons Pub, Rathmines backroom at 7.30pm.

Following on from the success of the first Rocking out the War Planes Gig we need to organise the next event which is taking place on Thursday the 25th of November. Also we will have some feedback from a discussion being held tomorrow with students from St Louis Secondary School on the Irish Anti War Movement. & finally a report back from the speakers corner held on Grafton Street last Friday evening by the Rathmines group.

With 4 more years of George Bush, we certainly have our work cut out for us. However now is not the time for hand wringing or despair. There is much we can all be doing to fight the continuing bloody occupation of Iraq. The immediate issue to hand is the use of Shannon by US Military, over 1,000 of which are going through the airport each day. By building awareness around this issue through the growth of local groups, supporting the national petition calling for neutrality to be enshrined into our constitution and getting to demonstrations such as the one this Saturday in Shannon we can end this abuse of power by the Government. Already we have seen a clear example of how worried they are by the deferring (for the 2nd time) of Mary Kelly's sentence to next month. With the anger amongst Irish citizens at the re election of George Bush and the growing anti war sentiment throughout Irish society this Government is hedging its bets, by refusing to pass sentence they are gauging the feeling on the ground with the hope they can minimise any backlash. So, we need to keep up the energy and the fire in our bellies against this illegal war and our Governments complicity in it.

All encouraged and welcome to attend
