This short talk introduces the thinking and activities of the prominent Indian scientist, environmental activist and feminist, Dr. Vandana Shiva and the anti-globalisation campaigns and organisations that she is involved with. I will argue that these activities represent an alternative vision of globalisation based on protecting and reclaiming ‘the commons’, putting people, sustainability and diversity first.
Dr Shiva is the author of 14 books and numerous articles on subjects including globalisation, agriculture, intellectual property rights, ecofeminism and water privatisation. She was winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize in 1993 and was nominated one of Asia’s top 5 most powerful people in 2000 by Asiaweek Magazine.
