From the morning of September 11th Muslims throughout the western world have faced their own new threat, new & improved anti terrorism laws directly primarily at the Muslim community. Bush, Blair and leaders throughout Europe rushed through new laws towards the end of 2001 allowing police forces to detain citizens, be they their own or any other country’s, indefinitely, without legal representation and sometimes without even being questioned.

The US’s bogeyman of Russia has now been replaced with a new & improved version, Islamic Fundamentalism. We no longer have to worry about the cold war creeping up on us in the middle of the night; it’s the war on terror that needs to consume our sleepless nights. Governments, police forces and mainstream media push Islamaphobia on us without analysis, whilst it divides our communities, justifies abuses of power by police forces, excuses the illegal Jewish settlements in Palestine, and waters down the bloody war on Iraq and the theft of the country’s natural resources and public services.

Mondays meeting will have an introduction by Kieran Allen who was has written on racism and was very vocal in his arguments against the recent racist referendum. All are encouraged to attend and to contribute.
