'Is Kerry and Better Than Bush?'

Monday 11th October

PRESS RELEASE

SWP TO HOLD MARXIST FORUM
ON AMERICAN ELECTION

The Waterford branch of the Socialist Workers Party are to hold a Marxist Forum on the subject of: “The US Elections: Is Kerry and Better Than Bush?” The forum will take place in Phil Grimes pub, Johnstown on Monday 11th October at 8.00pm and the speaker will be Roy Hassey. All members of the public are invited to attend the forum and take part in the discussion.

The American Presidential elections will take place this November with millions of people around the world hoping the George Bush will be beaten. The Bush regime is the most right-wing in America’s history. Bush has re-instituted 19th century imperialism in Iraq and Afghanistan, restricted civil liberties across the US, supported right-wing coups in Latin America and made the US the most hated country in the world.

But would Democratic challenger John Kerry be any better? Kerry voted for the war and has called for more troops to impose the occupation of Iraq. Democratic Presidents in the past have started wars in Korea, Vietnam and supported despotic regimes throughout the world.

Are the Democrats a real alternative to the Republicans, or is it necessary to look beyond these two parties to really change the US for the better. For more information contact 086-3274015.

Of course not.

Look beyond these two parties, and build the real socialist alternative, i.e. the SWP.

Who are the SWP backing? they say that the 2 main candidates are crap (any person on the left would agree) but who are they advocating a vote for? A critical vote for Kerry? Ralph Nader? or an abstention?

In this election as in 2000, we would call for a vote for Ralph Nader.

'E', you might want to recheck the part line with London.

From what I hear in states in which Nader and Calero, the American SWP (Not affiliated to the Irish SWP) candidate, are on the ballot the group affiliated to the Irish SWP are supporting Calero.

there is no longer any group in the US affiliated with the Irish SWP.

The British SWP expelled the ISO, their original affiliate, for looking at them funny or something along those lines. They were then left with Left Turn. Then Left Turn decided they didn't want to be connected to the SWP and told them to piss off.
