The Galway branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is running a public information meeting on the hunger strike (and on non-violent resistance generally) on Friday night, 3 Sept, at 8 pm in the Ardilaun Hotel, Taylor's Hill. There will be two speakers:
Dr Kathleen Cavanaugh of the Centre for Human Rights, NUI, Galway (recently returned from Palestine) will speak on the Israeli penal system, about the status of the hunger strike, and about the condition of the hunger strikers.
Eoghan MacCormac, Sinn Fein member and former hunger striker, will discuss the use of fasting as a form of non-violent protest.
People in the Galway area are also asked to join a 24-hour fast in solidarity with the 3,500 Palestinian hunger strikers, starting on Thursday evening, 2 September at 6 pm. For information, contact Richard Kimball, 087 237 57 89.
