According to Le Monde an islamic fundamentalist site has published a statement from an islamic fundamentalist group in Chechnya claiming responsibility for one of the downed aircraft (the one that sent the hijack signal).

Voters are going to the polls in "the troubled region" of Chechnya as I write.
And a surprise win for the only candidate with any backing, money or support. What a mess the place is in. That said, you can the the Russians point for staying in Chechnya as I don't believe Chechnya should be independent. However, when you have an army as ragged and disorganised as the Russians it seems to be civilians who are paying the real price.
