In the 4 years since George W Bush became President of the United States, the world has been plunged into a permanent 'war on terror' while the Earth's eco-system hangs in a virtual state of collapse.

According to Associated Press, Bush's latest adventure in Iraq has lead to the deaths of 1,200 Iraqis in April alone (over 10,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed since the war began in March 2003).

Track record on peace:
Directly responsible for the deaths of at least 10,000 Iraqi civilians, thousands of Afghans & 725 US troops;
supported the removal of the right of Palestinians to return to their pre-1948 homes; called Ariel Sharon a 'man of peace' even after he presided over the massacre of hundreds of Palestinians in the Jenin invasion. Bush’s declaration of ‘war on terror’ and his doctrine of pre-emptive strikes has given the confidence to regional tyrants across the world to act with impunity against oppressed peoples. Under the ‘war on terror’ teh Russian onslaught against Chechnya has escalated dramatically.

Track record on the environment:
Abandoned minimal Kyoto Protocol on global warming, opened plans for drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge; granted $2.4 billion worth of tax breaks, credits and loopholes for General Electric, Chevron, Texaco & Enron; ditched regulations governing emissions of mercury, sulfur dioxide & nitrogen oxide in the air; removed legal hurdles so mining & construction companies can dump waste into streams & rivers; weakened standards on tuna fishing in way that increases harm to dolphins … and much more

Thursday's meeting will explain why anyone who believes in justice, equality, human rights & the survival of our planet should demonstrate on June 25th against Bush & agains our own Governmen who invited him here. Over the coming weeks, the South City Peace Campaign will be helping others in the Stop Bush Campaign ensure that Bush gets an Irish welcome he won't easily forget on June 25th. In June & July we will also be holding a video showing of “Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land" - a video explaining the US media’s biased depiction of the Israeli conflict in Palestine - and also discussion on the US elections: Kerry or Nader: Is there an alternative to Bush? To get involved with our group contact 087 795 5013.
