S.U. argue financial implications of Boycott too great and campaign against issue
...despite supposed Neutrality
The situation in Maynooth now is, following a Union Council meeting last night-the executive of the Students Union have refined their argument to state that the financial implications a Boycott would incur on the Union is too great.
As a result class reps have been advising students to vote against the Boycott at the start of lectures. This means our Students Union are campaigning against the Boycott.
We’re holding a meeting this evening to discuss new strategies.
We were told that out of the 1,200 signatures handed in only 860 we’re valid. This was due to bogus number entered. We estimate that there were probably 1,300 gathered, we needed 1,125 in total to hold a referendum (one fifth of the students population). This means we had a surplus of about 275 to cover bogus numbers and suspect we are being fobbed off. But this is irrelevant.
This point is we are in the midst of an all out war with our S.U.
We intend on continuing until we have achieved our Goal but suspect we will need support.
Will report back after meeting.

We also discovered some things relating to the finances of the Students Union that totally discredit everything the S.U. have been saying but we need to confirm these revelations before making them public.
Basically the Maynooth Students Union have been frustrating the efforts of the Boycott Coke Campaign with no mandate and without voting on an official policy. they have been using dishonest and misleading arguements and refusing to accept the experiences of UCD following their referendums because apparently UCDSU are untrustworthy

Well done those in Maynooth pushing the boycott coke campaign. Don't be frustrated by the SU keep going and it will be worth it. We heard all this rubbish in Trinity about SU finances too. It's an absolute fabrication. You should point out that student services in TCD or UCD have not been affected by the boycott.
Any news on this? all seems to have gone quiet in Maynooth!
