All parties have disagreements and resignations. This sort of thing even occurs in a bastion of democracy like the SP. Their former General Secretary, Dermot Connolly recently resigned from the SP due to policy disagreements. The SP candidate in Crumlin, Joan Collins, although selected by the local branch as a candidate has yet to be ratified by the SP National Committee. Its possible she might now run as an independent if she is not endorsed by the SP.

I think you will find that you are dignifying the histrionics of a petty opportunist who thought that SF was the short cut to sucess. John Kelly may have had legitimate ideological beefs. This chancer does not.

To resign and then stand as an independent is opportunism.
To whinged about internal democracy over not getting selected is the sort of individualism the party does not need.

When will the snooze rename itself the SF Investigator...four front page stories in a week trying to undermine the work and ideology of the party.

take it down from the mast...

any truth in the rumour that Ann Speed is no longer a SF member? Did she jump or was she pushed?

still in the SP? Has she jumped or been pushed?

Funny that we never hear of the new people joining the party. In my own particular Cummain we have had six new people in the last few weeks. The party has never been stronger. I am sorry folks but talk of a split is just wishful thinking, everything looks good for the local elections.

And another thing. If he is so upset with SF he should resign the Council seat he won as a party representative because I can assure you it was the party and not him they were voting for.

Just to clarify, Ann Speed is still a member of Sinn Féin.

This the same 'petty opportunist' involved in Republicanism since the seventies, or is the new brand on Indymedia more revvvvvvvvolutionary? The same old story as soon as anyone stands out of party line in come the knives from the new suited yes men.

Leadership is there to lead, if you join a party it is to follow the party line, unity is strength.
Internal party disputes are just that. A united public face is always essential to political and revolutionary success. Internal arguements are common in the party, there are so many detracters, begrudgers and enemies of the party to do the back stabbing and criticism..tell me a way or show me an example of where there has been open debate and constant arguement in a political movement when there was work to be done.

When was Joan Collins selected as a candidate by her SP branch? SP members on here have repeatedly said that no selection convention has been held. Are they lying? or are you just attempting to stir the sh*t?

author by Punditpublication date Fri Mar 05, 2004 19:17author address author phone

With the words of "SP Member" and pointed out that Joan Collins was named as a candidate in the July issue of the Voice. What has changed since July 2003?

are the internal discipline squad still members ?. a good example of internal democracy in wexford recently.
the paedophile in the offices was let leave while the anti-drug campaigner got a hiding.
good to see politics in such a healthy state.

well thats more than your gerry can say

lol

author by observerpublication date Fri Mar 05, 2004 23:26author address author phone

Is that supposed to be amusing? We get rid of opportunists.....big deal. As for the previous shite about paedophiles and drug pushers. Well, it was the local party got rid of the paedophile - who incidentially has disappeared. And the thing in Wexford is nonsense. Person who was spreading lies about local republicans should have been listening when he was talking.

Rather, it is the SF leadership and Caitriona Ruane who they parachuted into the South Down constituency and, as a result, had to deselect Cunningham who has a long history of working in the constituency. You may remember Caitriona Ruane from such works of fiction as "I am not a member of Sinn Fein, just a Human Rights activist (Columbia Three campaign) and just a cultural activist (West Belfast festival)".

Caitriona is one of those very respectable (i.e. no whiff of cordite about them) 'peace process provos' who the party now wants to promote so that eventually, all SF reps will be like Gerry Adams - never a member of the IRA :-) The fact she only got in to the Assembly on the NINTH count and that the party in its anxiety to ensure her election nearly lost TWO Assembly seats should have taught them a lesson. Instead, now we hear that Bairbre deBrun may be dropped as Euro elections candidate (because of widespread hatred of her over the number of hospitals she closed) and Ruane run instead. This is really because of Hume not standing. No one thought SF would have a chance of taking one of the seats with St. John standing but now the field is wide open.
