Israeli Foreign Minister, Silvan Shalom, to visit Dublin, 27 February 2004

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen T.D., will meet Israel's Foreign Minister, Mr. Silvan Shalom, in Dublin on 27 February.

This is the second meeting between the two since the beginning of Ireland's Presidency.

"The Middle-East Peace Process is one of the top foreign policy priorities for Ireland's Presidency", said Minister Cowen.  "I visited the region in January, when I met Minister Shalom, and I hope to travel to the region again before the end of Ireland's Presidency."

The Middle East Peace Process will be the main topic for discussion at Friday's meeting.

"It is essential to build confidence between the parties and to revive the peace process", said Cowen.  "Ireland, and the EU, stand ready to do what we can to contribute to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.

I look forward to Friday's discussions with Silvan Shalom".

The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference at approximately 10am.
