Anti-war events in NUI Galway

There is a public forum on Shannon and war in Cairnes Lecture Theatre, on the concourse, NUI Galway, on Thursday, February 12th, at 7pm. Invited speakers include:
Tim Hourigan, who monitors the military flights in Shannon, Nuria Dunne, Iraqi exile and peace activist, and Maggie Ronayne, NUIG archaeology lecturer and coordinator of the Global Women’s Strike in Ireland, who are organising a protest at Shannon on March the 8th.
The purpose of the forum is to renew anti-war activism in the college, which was very successful in mobilising people last year, and to hold an open discussion on where we can go from here.
On Wednesday the 18th of February at 9pm there is a showing of short documentary films on the peace movement in AM250 in the Arts Millennium building of NUI Galway.
These films include the locally made ‘From Clare to Kuwait’, as well as ‘Traces from Places’ , which includes footage of the big blockade of Faslane nuclear submarine base in Scotland, and of the demonstrations at the G8 summit in Evian last summer.
These films will then be shown again in the Hub, NUI Galway, on the 19th at 3pm.
The film showings are part of Muscailt Arts week.
