The government has cut in childcare schemes and causes many students not to be able to take up places in Further Education. Youthreach & Traveller Training Centres, & causes others to drop out. It also puts huge pressure on creches which depend on the students to operate & have been set up for these students. Some creches in CDVEC can still not open due to lack of funds. It has taken many years of effort to get the childcare provision we have now, we cannot afford to let it slip away. The protest against these cuts takes place outside Dublin Castle at 1pm on Tuesday 3rd Feb

PROTEST ABOUT CHILDCARE
• Although the Dept of Ed & Science have allocated extra money to the VECs in Dec. 2003 for Childcare provision, the situatuion for 2004 still stands at the lower allocation i.e. 37 % down from 2002.
• This causes many students not to be able to take up places in Further Education. Youthreach & Traveller Training Centres, & causes others to drop out.
• It also puts huge pressure on creches which depend on the students to operate & have been set up for these students
• Some creches in CDVEC can still not open due to lack of funds
• It has taken many years of effort to get the childcare provision we have now, we cannot afford to let it slip away
• Cutting Childcare provision goes completely against the recommendations accepted by this government in the Lisbon protocol
• Minister Dempsey & the government are being completely two faced on this issue promising improvements in access to education & targeting disadvantage on one hand & cutting away viciously at the provision that does exist on the other.
