TROPICAL BLAIRISM- Lula, Brasil and the fight against Neo-Liberalism.

category international | anti-capitalism | event notice author Monday January 26, 2004 18:53author by UCD SWSS

UCD Marxist Forum

Room B101 this Weds at 1pm
Speaker: Rory Ahern, Another World is Possible Conveynor and SWSS TCD

This week's forum is about the new leftwing government of Lula in Brasil. Lula represented the hopes and dreams of millions of low paid workers and poor
landless peasants when he was elected last year. Now, like Tony Blair before him, he is turning on his supporters and implementing the policies of Neo-Liberalism, privatising state industries, expelling left wing activists who are still standing with the people's movements. With Lula's government
surrendering radical policies to the diktats of the World Bank and the IMF, many are now arguing that they need a revolutionary alternative to reformism in Latin America.
