Bin Tax Jailings: Protest March to Wheatfield Prison

category dublin | bin tax / household tax / water tax | event notice author Friday November 07, 2003 20:27author by Campaign activist

Leaving Palmerston Shopping Centre 4.00 PM

This march is taking place to protest against the outrageous jailings of six campaigners against the bin tax. Four protestors are in Wheatfield Prison. They are John Murphy, Oliver Short, Finian Smyth and Oliver O’Reilly.

Two, Fionn Ryder and David Murphy, are in Mountjoy jail.

here is widespread anger in the communities in South Dublin at this treatment of honourable taxpayers. Ordinary people are contrasting their three weeksentence and fine of €1,500 with the fact that wealthy Absbacher account holders, corrupt councillors and big bankers have not even been to court to answer for real crimes.

South Dublin Campaign organiser, Mick Murphy, faces jail on Monday

The Secretary of the south Dublin Campaign Against Refuse Charges is before the High Court at 2.00 PM on Monday.

Like the six already in jail, his “crime” is to be involved in peaceful protests against the policy of South Dublin County Council to leave uncollected the refuse bins of thousands of taxpaying householders

PROTEST 4PM
Assemble SILVER GRANITE, PALMERSTOWN.

Show your opposition to the attack on civil liberites that these jailings represent. I think it's the 78A that goes to Palmerstown.

The UCDSU are now supporting any demos that will be calling for the release of their member, DAvid Murphy. I look forward to finally seeing my SU banner at demos, instead of being stuck in Aonghus's office so that he can look at it gathering dust.

It is notable that the prisoners are not being held in the Training Unit. They are all in the general prison population. It is quite clear that the establishment wants to make things as difficult as possible for them.
