Title: Workshop: 'Oil, Taxes and Reversing Climate Change'
When: Tuesday – November 18th 19.30 – 21.30
Where: CULTIVATE Sustainable Living Centre
Description:
A shift away from fossil fuels to renewable energy resources could be speeded up if governments recognised that:
-Growth in global carbon emissions must be reversed, not just stopped.
-Many carbon neutral technologies already exist and could be rapidly deployed if economic conditions were right.
-Public finances should subsidise renewable energy, not fossil fuels.
-While governments do not have to lead the way in introducing new technologies, they should restructure their fiscal frameworks so that long-delayed carbon neutral technologies become competitive, affordable and widespread.
This workshop will be an exploration and discussion of these issues led by Peter Fend from the Ocean Earth Development Corporation and Pat Finnegan from GRIAN.
