Japanese Buddhist nun, Sr. Muerte from the Nipponzon Myohoji Order will be chanting for peace at The Spire (GPO O'Connel St.) 9 am-1pm, Friday Oct 31st.
She will be joined by Pit Stop Ploughshares defendants, the vigil will be in opposition to the continued use of Shannon Airport in the ongoing invasion and occupation of Iraq.
Sr. Muerte is from the Nipponzon Myohoji Buddhist Temple and Peace Pagoda in Milton Keynes. The order also has a temple and pagoda in Battersea Park in London.
Sr. Muerte has particpated in many long peace walks in her 30 years in the order. She walked form Auschwitz to Hiroshima in 1995, London to Belfast in 1996 and Liverpool to Africa in 1998. She has drummed and chanted outside a number of ploughshares trials, including the acquittals of the "Seeds of Hope Ploughshares" in Liverpool 1996, Loch Goil Ploughshares in Scotland in 1999, the Trash Trident Ploughshares in Manchester in 2000. She has come to Ireland to support the PIt Stop Ploughshares as they await trial.
Ploughshares defendants and supporters will also be gathering on Monday at The Spire 9 am sharp before proceeding to the Four Courts.
