Re-scheduled

Just to let everyone know - this was postponed last night as Brian from anarchomedia could not make it due to adverse weather conditions.

It has been re-scheduled for next week, that's Wednesday the 29th of October, at the usual time of 7.30pm.

Same details as below. Hope to see you then. We'll also hopefully have some information handouts about media ownership in Ireland on the night.

> This week's topic is "Anti-Capitalism and the Media"
>
> The mass media these days is controlled by fewer & fewer people. All
> across the world there are media moguls such as Silvio Berlusconi or
> even closer to home the O'Reilly empire, who own radio & TV stations,
> newspapers, magazines, newswires, internet sites, etc.
>
> Time and time again the mass media are content to only show 10-second
> snippets of media coverage from demonstrations where there may be
> some "newsworthy" content, i.e. a flashpoint or conflict. This is
> often depicted in a vacuum. How do we overcome this? Is there a way
> of making inroads into the mass media? Or is it up to us to create
> alternative media networks? Should we talk to the mass media at all?
> Are big demonstrations really just a spectacle?
>
> All these questions and more will hopefully be addressed during the
> discussion.
>
> Brian from the new website Anarchomedia will be present to give a
> short introduction to the talk, and we will hopefully have someone
> from Indymedia Ireland as well.
>
> For more information contact Keith on 086 336 3743.
