South East Social Forum to Hold Public Meeting on European & Irish Social Forums

SESF Holding Public Meeting to discuss mobilisation for European and Irish Social Forums

The South East Social Forum is to hold a public meeting to launch the local mobilisation for the European and Irish Social Forums. The meeting entitled: "Building an Alternative to Privatisation and War, The European and Irish Social Forums", will take place in the ATGWU union hall, Keyser Street, Waterford on Tuesday October 14th at 8.00p.m. The speakers will be:

Dick Roche: President, Waterford Council of Trade Unions

Paul Flynn: South East Social Forum and Environmental Activist

Gerrit Nelson: African Anti-Capitalist

Speaker from Globalise Resistance

The European Social Forum takes place on November 12th to 15th in St. Denis, Paris. The first ESF in Florence, Italy last year attracted 60,000 delegates and culminated in a one million strong anti-war march. The ESF is a space for people from across Europe and the world to come together to discuss hoe to build another world, and to organise opposition to corporate globalisation and war. The themes of the forum are: Stop War, Against Corporate Power, People Not Profit, No to Privatisation, No Racism – No Fortress Europe. Hundreds of speakers from across the world will address the delegates at the forum.

The first Irish Social Forum will take place in Dublin from October 17th – 19th and will feature the Carnival for Change, a celebration of multi-cultural Ireland on Sunday the 19th. The themes of the ISF include: Yes to Peace – No to War, Defending Public Services – Privatisation and Public Space, Planet Before Profit, Yes to Equality No to Racism. Speakers at the ISF come from a wide diverse of national and international organisations.

The meeting on Tuesday next will discuss the issues around social forums and the need for open space between those who oppose neo-liberalism to discuss organising to build another world. The meeting is open to all members of the public and anybody who would like more information about the South East, Irish and European Social Forums.
