Government Accused Over Housing Shortage
14/07/03: Labour Party’s Joan Burton has accused the government of glossing over its failure to provide sufficient affordable homes

Deputy Burton said the faiure came at a time when the average house price has topped E250,000."

She was speaking following the publication of the Quarterly Housing Bulletin, which revealed that the price of new houses had risen by over 12% in the last year.

"Despite repeated assertions that there would be a slow-down in the housing prices, these figures demonstrate a significant rise on this time last year,” she said.

"In effect, the rate of increase in house prices is three times that of inflation. The average cost of a house in Ireland is E250,000. Yet this government has seen fit to abolish the first-time buyer's grant and cut back on affordable housing schemes.

"Despite Housing Minister Noel Ahern's claims today, the government has failed to control the price of building land. The matter cannot simply be left to the All-Party Committee on the price of building land, and urgent action should be taken immediately,” she said. (14/07/03)

Just heard that the two people who were detained in store street were released without charge.

author by iosafpublication date Mon Jul 14, 2003 18:40author address author phone

good they are out.

It is well known that Gardaí in Dublin and Ireland take part regularly in extra-official evictions.
This is not part of their normal duty.
It constitutes an illegal use of their uniform.

The Garda Code makes no provisions for assisting in eviction. Normally after a garda has taken part in such evictions at the invitation of his landlord pal, the evicted is "arrested"/"detained" and then released without charge.
why?
becuase no charge may be made.

So. if you are in rent arrears.
and a Garda comes to your door, claiming to be acting on a trespass complaint, you must ignore them. You are not obliged to comply with any unlawful direction from a Garda.
Just because a Garda tells you to do something doesn't mean he has a right.

It has long past time, that such abuse of Garda Power were investigated.

Is it consistent with law and order, that a landlord may evict with armed assistance trespassers or sqautters with the added presence of a "guard in uniform"?

Numerous complaints of intimidation of this nature have been made to all political parties of the left, and to the Gardaí themselves.

·we must pursue this·

(& next time, if no sitex door is available, borrow a few suitably bred dogs)
& always keep cameras and mobiles in operation. If you pass through this type of extra-official eviction, no Garda will come to the scene of complaint again. And eviction is settled through civil law. But this requires braving the shit.

On Monday the quarterly housing statistics were published. This would be a regular time in the calendar for the Labour Party, other opposition parties, Threshold etc. to issue press releases about housing.

No conspiracy here.

Causes embarrassment to the 'Comrades' at times. He swallows the line too well and resist a chance to attack Labour.
