I always thought that IMC was meant to be a secular and progressive website and not a religious one. Groups like the Catholic Workers are quite regressive on most issues such as divorce, abortion papal infallibility, they work with Youth Defence on many occasions. The only reason they were against the war was because their pope came out against it. What do others think about keeping IMC secular? should religious posts and posts put up by catholic and religious grousp be removed?
The Catholic Worker is historically a Christian Pacifist Anarchist Movement. Has been since it was founded by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in the 1930's in New York. You might want to look us up. I think the Pitstop Ploughshares have links posted on their website.
In fact, lots of Catholic Workers have done time in the US for opposing World War II, and again for opposing every war and so-called police action the US has been involved in since. I've got a CW friend going to court tomorrow for trespassing at Boeing in St. Louis to protest the 24 hour a day production line for "smart" bombs and cluster bombs. My community has been involved in resistance to US policy in Iraq for years.
The movement in the US is pretty well known for opposing state sponsored killing whether its on the battlefield or in the execution chamber (we still have those, not being as progressive as you are). We're also pretty well known for being a thorn in the side of the hierarchy of the church.
I know our sort are kinda new to you-all in Ireland, but we oppose the Iraq war because all war is wrong.
One of the most radical practitioners of active non-violence in the history of the world was Jesus of Nazareth. The Pitstop Ploughshares folks are just following in his footsteps. Relax. They aren't trying to drag you into church: they just want to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Think about it.
Peace,
Ruth

The meeting, under the auspices of the Galway Alliance Against War, is scheduled to begin at 8.30. (And Richarson's is in Eyre Square)
I hope all my Galway friends from long ago and from the present will support this great anti-war group.
They are brave and wonderful people who have put their freedom on the line for peace in our world.
I know that the Galway people I lived among for years will feel a kinship with them, and I hope they will come back from you renewed in body and spirit.
Good meeting, great folks who haven't accepted the media lies war is over!
Very proactive crew organising a bus to the 21st. and initiating local actvities. Lots of charactertuers of each other shed through the evening etc etc
