Meeting & Campaign Launch: Report

category dublin | anti-capitalism | news report author Sunday July 06, 2014 15:00author by Anti-Imperialist Front Ireland

Comrades,

Yesterday, we held a very successful meeting in Dublin in solidarity with the antifascist resistance, and the brave people of Ukraine under constant threat from the fascist Kiev regime.

Once proceedings got under way we were connected through a skype call to a surgeon who gave us all an account of what was going on in his region, and in his hospital. One of the main things he emphasised was the need for money and medical supplies, and how there are another 3 hospitals in the region too were medical supplies need divided around between them. We were also connected to 3 other citizens in Ukraine who all gave harrowing accounts of the situation there. Indeed, it was a very emotional and moving meeting for all concerned.

We had a great contribution from the floor too with such questions raised as to how we can all help, and how we can combat against the lies being spun by the media.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Communist Party of Ireland for the use of the venue, and everybody for making the meeting possible, during this critical time in Ukraine. The process of launching a campaign in support of the antifascist resistance in Ukraine has begun, but again, we need all of your support to make it work.

Solidarity to the People's Republic's, Solidarity to the Antifascist Resistance in Ukraine!

On 20th of February 2013 the world watched in shock and horror as snipers murdered over 21 people in Kiev. It was widely assumed that it was President Yanukovich and his supporters who were behind the attacks. But on March 5th a leaked phone conversation between Estonia's Foreign Minster Urmas Paet and EU foreign policy Chief Cathy Ashton, revealed that the snipers where in fact from the new coalition government.

The Pro-Maiden forces had taken control of the City Centre of Kiev in a coup backed by the EU/NATO. A coalition between some of the most extreme right wing and openly fascist organisations in Ukraine had been formed between the Right Sector, and the Savboda Party. Seeing what was happening the people of Crimea voted overwhelmingly in favour of braking away from Ukraine and becoming part of the Russian Federation. Likewise in the East, Cities such as Lugansk, Dontskt, have rebelled against the far right regime in Kiev creating their own autonomous people's republic's in the process.

Now funded by the EU to the tune of €5,000,000,000 the Ukrainian government has being waging a war against its own people, and the situation as we know it, is grave. Many civilians have been butchered by Fascist death squads, as we saw during the massacre in Odessa, while the Kiev Junta is targeting civilian infrastructure, as countless Air-strikes have attacked the cities of Lugansk, and Dontskt, targeting hospitals and even an orphanage. These are the sort of steps taken by the the regime to create a reign of terror around the people's republic's.

Ever since the Kiev regime came to power free speech has come under attack, and any opposition is quickly suppressed by the fascist squads who have begun organising and carrying out pogroms and attacks against antifascists and anybody showing opposition to the regime.

The problem we face here in Ireland is that we are being systematically lied to by the media. But this isn't anything new. Any country who doesn't toe the western imperialist line is always lied about. The lied when the so-called bringers of peace and democracy, NATO, pulverised Libya into dust, and when the al Qaeda suicide bombers were murdering innocent civilians in Syria, they portrayed them activist suicide bombers doing their bit for freedom and democracy.

The media line being spun here is more about “pro-Russian” separatists, and noting at all to do with anti-government protesters. This is very misleading, and an attempt to hide the real nature of the protests against the regime, which is in fact opposition to a western back coup.

The conflict itself is also a social and class based one rather than one based on language or ethnicity. It's a conflict against Oligarchic politicians at one end, and the very other the ordinary workers, and miners.

To this end we see the need of a broad-based campaign here in Ireland, made up of socialist and workers groups etc. and to highlight the situation by combating against the lies of the Western media, and expressing our solidarity with the antifascist resistance in Ukraine.

Down with the government of Oligarchs! Dissolution of the Fascist militia!
