Many lives and families being destroyed by corrupt system

On Thursday 20/6/13 a number of Protestors attended the Dail in Kildare Street to repeat their claims of widespread criminal wrongdoing and corruption within the Garda Siochana (police) and Legal System in Ireland. The Protestors met with members of the Dail (Parliament) who promised to do something about the shocking stories they heard. In addition many lay people enquired as to the reason for the protest and were largely shocked by the stories told.

Corruption within the Gardaí is not only about the trivial matter of penalty points as the protest outside the Dail proved. The stories heard from Protestors at the Dail indicate that the lessons learned from the McBrearty and Shortt Cases of Donegal have been ignored. The Protestors met with members of the Dail and were very pleased to see the addition of Senator Eamon Coughlan who took a keen interest in one very disturbing case of corruption. One Independent TD had a separate meeting with one of the Protestors and confirmed that it was the worst story he had ever heard - in fact it is a scandal. He also promised the individual that he would assist him. It was agreed by all that Justice Minister Alan Shatter has ignored complaints to him and is not doing his job and that the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) should be abolished. It should be replaced with a totally independent body. Very disturbing complaints made to the GSOC by the Protestors were deliberately ignored. These complaints involve criminal activity and wrongdoing by members of a very corrupt police force. The Protestors are adamant that they are not going to give up until justice is done and seen to be done.
