TOUR DE HISTORIA POLÍTICA/ POLITICAL HISTORY TOUR DE DUBLÍN/ OF DUBLIN

The tour will commence at Dublin Castle gate. El tour se inicia a las 14:00 (2pm) en la entrada principal del Castillo de Dublín, Dame Street, BÁC 1.

Price per person/ Entrada €5 (rebaja de 50% en el precio habituál).

The tour will last approximately two hours. El tour durará aproximamente dos horas, después de lo cual podriamos hir a comer al Food Hall y después quizás a tomar una pinta (o igual dos) en algun bar (el Celt?). It is advisable to bring water to drink/ Se conseja llevar agua para beber, y estar preparado con ropa etc. para lluvia, frio y sol (el tiempo es capaz de cambiar bastante durante un día)/ and to bring clothing appropriate to rain, cold and sun.

The tour will cover the political history of Dublin/ El tour repasará la historia política de Dublín en el contexto de la sociedad celta, los ataques y ocupación vikinga, la invasión normanda, y la posterior ocupación colonial británica con sus 800 años de represión y resistencia. Se explicará también el desastre de La Gran Hambruna. The Great Hunger will also be explained.

The history of the resistence will refer to various organisations. La historia de la resistencia pasa por las varias organizaciones – los Irlandeses Unidos (United Irishmen), Joven Irlandeses (Young Irelanders), los Fenianos (Fenians), los Voluntarios Irlandeses (Irish Volunteers), Ejercito Ciudadano (Citizen Army) y el IRA. It would be worthwhile, although not absolutely necessary, to read briefly about these organisations prior to going on the tour.

The history of workers' struggle will also be touched upon and in particular that of the Dublin Lockout.
